On April 13, 2026, the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies, located on Imouzzer Road in Fez, hosted a dynamic and interdisciplinary workshop dedicated to the promotion of agroecological practices in Morocco. The event was organized within the framework of the ASTER scientific project, with the goal of advancing sustainable food systems through knowledge exchange and collaboration.
The workshop brought together a diverse group of participants, including local farmers, university students, academic staff, and representatives from non-profit organizations active in the fields of ecology and sustainable agriculture. This multi-stakeholder engagement created a fertile environment for dialogue, enabling the sharing of practical experiences, scientific insights, and innovative approaches to agroecology.
Discussions focused on the role of agroecological practices in enhancing food system resilience, preserving biodiversity, and supporting rural livelihoods. Particular attention was given to locally adapted strategies that align with Morocco’s environmental and socio-economic context.
The active participation of farmers provided valuable ground-level perspectives, while students and researchers contributed with analytical and forward-looking viewpoints. Non-profit organizations enriched the conversation by highlighting ongoing initiatives and opportunities for community-based action.
Overall, the workshop represented an important step toward strengthening collaboration between academia, practitioners, and civil society. It reinforced the importance of integrated approaches to sustainability and underscored the ASTER project’s commitment to fostering impactful scientific and societal engagement.
Further activities and follow-ups are expected to build on the outcomes of this event, supporting the continued development and dissemination of agroecological practices in Morocco.
